UNPAK - Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim said that currently Indonesia is in a 'war' condition against something invisible but threatens many lives. Something Nadiem meant was the corona virus (Covid-19).
"Right now our country is in a 'war' condition against an invisible, fast-moving enemy that threatens human lives," Nadiem said in a Covid-19 basic literacy training video conference for student volunteers, quoting Antara on Thursday (3/26) .
According to Nadiem, the future of Indonesia is in the hands of people at all levels. Whether or not Indonesia faces a war in question depends on community cohesiveness.
"For that reason, I invite all levels of society to conquer this enemy," he said.
Nadiem said the Ministry of Education and Culture would also take a role in facing the current 'war'. One of them is by setting up health facilities under the Ministry of Education and Culture as a sub-center for Covid-19 tests.
"Currently there are 13 medical faculties and 13 teaching hospitals appointed by the Ministry of Health as the Covid-19 testing laboratory," Nadiem said.
Nadiem said the teaching hospital under the Ministry of Education and Culture would also be optimized to be ready to treat corona virus patients.
Another step that will be taken is to mobilize students majoring in health to become volunteers in the 'war' against COVID-19. Starting from prevention to treatment.
"I as Minister of Education and Culture appreciates extraordinary, because within three days there are 15 thousand student volunteers who register. I am touched," he added.
Nadiem said that all boarding facilities under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture will also be used as a quarantine place for people under surveillance (ODP) and patients under supervision (PDP) corona.
The hostel in question has been under the Education Quality Assurance Institute (LPMP) and the Center for Development and Empowerment of Educators and Education Personnel (P4TK). The bed capacity of P4TK and LPMP is 18,000 beds.
The corona virus has infected 790 people in Indonesia as of Wednesday (3/25). A total of 58 people of that number died and 31 people were declared cured.Download full storyWar Against Corona
